Dr. Christine Theiss looks to end career at the end of 2013

Steko’s Sportscenter, Munich – The best things in life must come to an end.  We all have to think about it, sometimes sooner than later.

For Dr. Christine Theiss, she’s had time to enjoy this ride.  After 38 professional fights, 37 of them wins, 14 ending in knockouts, the reigning WKU, WKA, and ISKA World Champion announced that she will hang up her gloves in 2013.  There may be a few fights this year, or that could be tonight.

If you ask her opponent, Olga Stavrova, retirement will come at this edition of Steko’s Fight Night at Circus Krone.  The smaller Russian will pose a challenge for Theiss for the WKU World Championship belt for Kickboxing 62.5kg.  At almost 12 cm shorter, Stavrova will be coming in on the attack, forcing Theiss to keep her distance to land any kicks.

Chances are Theiss will outlast Stavrova (25-1-1, 8 KO’s) but will take some punishment, and that may force the German champ to consider an early retirement.

There will be five other WKU Championship bouts will pit members of Team Steko who are the current holders of the belts against international contenders.  Pietro “The Cop” Vecchio will defend his belt against French champion Nicolas Atmani, while Dardan “The Gladiator” Morina will be challenged by WTKA European champ Filip Kulawinski from Poland.

On the women’s side, Julia “The Cop” Irmen battles the experienced Russian Marina Zueva (41-4-0, 8 KO’s).  Irmen (18-1-0, 6 KO’s) is the WKU European champion and is being groomed to be the next Theiss.
