Munich Cowboys at Wiesbaden Phantoms

by Salman Mitha, Sport Eagle

Munich – It comes down to the last game of the season.  The Munich Cowboys have a fighting chance.  After a season of mostly downs than ups, they need a win to secure their spot in the GFL next season and avoid relegation.

Munich’s backfield of QB Patrick Carey and RB Fabien Gärtner has been solid all season.  Carey has thrown for 2,660 yards and 23 touchdowns, while Gärtner has 10 TDs, rushing for 1,093 yards.  But that hasn’t been enough to overcome injuries and player movement, as the team started 0-7-1.

But after their 35-21 win last weekend against the Rhein-Neckar Bandits at home, they have a chance to erase this season, go into the off-season with a two-game win streak, and look forward to 2013.

A loss doesn’t mean they don’t have a chance.  They would then need some help.  The Saarland Hurricanes need to also lose their game against the Bandits, and Munich will back in and survive.

Kickoff on Saturday is at 18:00 CET.
