Olympic Ice Stadium, Munich – As far as debuts go, it wasn’t spectacular.  But new national team coach Pat Cortina will take it.

Germany scored timely goals and got solid goaltending by Rob Zepp as they earned a 3-2 win for Cortina at the Deutschland Cup 2012.  Goals by Marcus Kink, Frank Hördler, and Nikolai Goc were enough for the hosts to hold off a hard-charging Canadian Team, who scored a goal at the end and almost scored the equalizer.

Zepp was not to be denied, standing strong between the pipes all night, stopping shots from right in front.  It also helped that his team were able to kill off two early penalties, and then immediately score to deflate the defending Olympic gold medal winners from Vancouver 2010.

Cortina, Team Canada’s head coach Rick Chernomaz and goal scorer Nigel Dawes spoke to Sport Eagle about the game and what to expect during the weekend.
