The Phantoms took the opening kickoff 80 yards in 13 plays, Payne finishing off the drive taking a delayed handoff 15 yards to paydirt.  Munich came in on a blitz and were caught off guard, Payne navigated his way to the score to lead 7-0.

The Cowboys were able to take their opening possession down the field, the drive stalled, and they missed their 21-yard field goal attempt.

Wiesbaden extended their lead early in the 2nd quarter by continuing their drive from the end of the previous quarter.  Payne continued his running, and Kevin Brüngel controlled the drive with his short passing game.  He finished off the drive with a keeper and the 14-0 lead.

Brüngel’s counterpart on the Cowboys Patrick Carey got into the game, getting his team on the board throwing a 15 yard touchdown to Nicolai Alter.  The extra point failed and Munich trailed 14-6.

The teams were sloppy in the 3rd quarter as teams exchanged turnovers and neither side could convert them into points.

Wiesbaden did recover a Cowboys fumble at the end of the quarter, starting a drive on the Munich 29 yard line.  Four plays later, Brüngel found Yannick Lorenz across the middle and Lorenz dove into the endzone for the 20-6 lead.

Ryan Newell was the player of the game for Munich, he intercepted Brüngel for the second time and the Phantoms committed three key defensive penalties to allow the drive to continue and progress to the 1 yard line.  Fabien Gärtner scored and gave his team hope, down now only 20-13 with 7:38 left.

However, just like the beginning of the game, the Phantoms drove 80 yards, this time it took 14 plays, but ended the same way with Payne scoring a touchdown.  His 4 yard plunge gave them the final score of 26-13.

Despite his two interceptions, Brüngel threw for 149 yards and a TD.  Carey threw for 145 yards, but the weak rushing attack by the Cowboys (37 yards) was not enough for the win.

The Cowboys will look for their first win on Sunday, June 9th at the Saarland Hurricanes.  Wiesbaden will look for their first home win when they host the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns.
