King of the Lions
Giesing, Munich – Gerhard Mayrhofer is all about business. And he wants to make 1860 Munich better business, but in the top flight of the Bundesliga.
On July 14, 2013, the 51-year-old Mayrhofer was elected to be the President of TSV 1860 München, collecting 884 of 923 votes.
His goal for this season: “I believe in promotion this year.”
The older of the two professional football clubs in Munich has been stuck in neutral, mired in financial and team turmoil in the second division of the Bundesliga. Meanwhile, their younger neighbors a few blocks over, FC Bayern, continue to grow their trophy-haul and global brand.
“Sechzig has been the development camp for professionals long enough,” Mayrhofer clarified during his acceptance speech back in the summer.
100 days after his election, Mayrhofer took time to meet with the press and spoke exclusively to Sport Eagle about his vision for the club and if his promise of earning
promotion to the top flight of the Bundesliga is on track.
